From Hobbyist to Creator: My Journey in the World of Custom Collectibles
Share
In 2016, I stumbled into the world of customizing collectible figures, and it changed my life. Back then, I was just a hobbyist with a passion for transforming ordinary figures into something extraordinary. Alongside this, I dabbled in stop-motion animation, breathing life into these figures in a way that felt deeply personal. It was a rewarding but time-consuming process that allowed me to connect with the vibrant community of collectors and creators.
As much as I loved stop-motion, I realized my true passion was in the art of customization itself. I wanted to push my skills further, so I made a tough decision: I paused stop-motion to focus entirely on improving my custom work. This shift allowed me to experiment with sculpting, painting, and designing at a deeper level. I refined my techniques and started to understand the nuances of what collectors truly want—pieces that elevate their figures without breaking the bank.
That brings me to where I am today. After years of trial, error, and growth, I’ve embraced a new business model for Swags Customs. Instead of creating one-off customs for individual collectors, I’ve developed a way to design a single, high-quality sculpt that can be produced and sold at an affordable price. This approach allows me to share my creations with a broader audience, making it easier for collectors to upgrade their figures without spending a fortune.
One of my latest projects—1/12 scale hair sculpts for S.H. Figuarts Goku Black figures—captures this philosophy perfectly. These sculpts, available in vibrant purple and pink versions, bring a fresh, dynamic look to the figure. They’re crafted with precision and designed for collectors who want to enhance their display without sacrificing their budget.
Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come. From my early days of customizing and animating, to taking a break to improve my craft, to now providing affordable upgrades for the community—it’s been an incredible journey. My goal has always been to help passionate collectors enjoy their hobby without worrying about cost, and I feel like I’m finally achieving that vision.
To anyone who’s been following my work or is just discovering it: thank you. Your support inspires me to keep creating, innovating, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the world of custom collectibles.
Here’s to making collections better, one custom piece at a time!
